Ek, Do, Teen... All That You Didn't Know About This Madhuri Number
With Jacqueline Fernandez's reprisal (Baaghi 2) of Madhuri Dixit's Ek Do Teen number (Tezaab) having hit theatres yesterday, the time is right to go down memory lane...
Ek,
Do, Teen of N Chandra's Tezaab (1988) is the most popular song of Madhuri
Dixit’s dance numbers which highlighted her dancing skills and landed her
dozens of dance numbers, right from Humko Aaj Kal Hai Intezaar in Sailaab to
Tamma Tamma in Thanedaar to Chane Ke Khet Mein in Anjaam to Maar Daala in
Devdas to the recent Ghagra in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
But
nothing could beat Ek, Do, Teen. The song went on to change the fortunes of
Madhuri Dixit--- from the girl next door of Abodh she became the most
charming dancer of the 90s.
The
Ek, Do, Teen number has some interesting anecdotes and stories behind its
making:
1.
Choreographer Saroj Khan won her first Filmfare Award as a
choreographer (the category was created that year, making her the
first winner) and Alka Yagnik got her first Filmfare as playback singer.
2. Madhuri
rehearsed for the song for 16 days.

3. Madhuri was in the US for a holiday when Chandra released Tezaab. When she
returned to Mumbai, there was a large crowd waiting for her at the airport,
calling out 'Mohini, Mohini.
4. When Anil
Kapoor saw the rushes, he got so excited that he insisted that there should be
a male version of the song too. That number was picturized outside
Mohini’s bungalow in the movie- which is today the iconic Jannat of Shah Rukh
Khan. The male version, sung by Amit Kumar, was added only after the film
had released but that too went on to become a sort of rage.
